A Numerical Algorithm for Fluid Flow in 3D Naturally Fractured Porous Media
Fluid ow in three-dimensional (3D) fractured porous media is considered. The governing system of partial di erential equations consists of two subsystems { one describing the ow in the fractures, and the other describing the ow in the matrix blocks. In this paper, we develop an e cient algorithm for the numerical solution of the problem. An operator splitting technique is employed, as a part of...
متن کاملA Numerical Algorithm for Fluid Flow in Porous Media
Fluid flow model in porous media is considered. The governing equation is strong nonlinear parabolic differential equation. We develop an efficient algorithm for the numerical solution of the problem. It depends on an iterative scheme that developed recently. We prove the convergence of this scheme. Numerical results demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithm.
متن کاملSimple Filtration Using Porous Media
This work is a study of the movement of particles, one at a time, through a fixed filter. Various assumptions are made about particle and pore sizes, pore selection rules and filter configurations. This report is divided into three main sections: The first studies the filter by analyzing its layers both in a qualitative sense and by computational simulations. The next studies the filter through...
متن کاملNumerical assessment of 3D macrodispersion in heterogeneous porous media
Hydrodynamic dispersion is a key controlling factor of solute transport in heterogeneous porous media. It critically depends on dimensionality. The asymptotic macrodispersion, transverse to the mean velocity direction, vanishes only in 2D and not in 3D. Using the classical Gaussian correlated permeability fields with a lognormal distribution of variance σ Y 2 , the longitudinal and transverse d...
متن کاملNumerical Model for Saturated-Unsaturated Flow in Deformable Porous Media
An integrated finite difference algorithm is presented for numerically solving the governing equation of saturated-unsaturated flow in deformable porous media. In recognition that stability of the explicit equation is a local phenomenon a mixed explicit-implicit procedure is used for marching in the time domain. In this scheme the explicit changes in potential are first computed for all element...
